Directional production of even carbon volatile fatty acids from peanut meal: effects of initial pH and hydraulic residence time

In this study, peanut meal was used as the substrate for continuous production of even carbon volatile fatty acids (ECFA) through anaerobic fermentation. First, a stirred reactor (CSTR) started by adjusting initial pH to acclimate related bacteria, and then hydraulic residence time (HRT) optimized. The effects different HRT on potential ECFA fermentation, transformation utilization main organic compounds, composition replacement microbial community structure behind it were investigated. results showed that dominant factor in acid alkaline = 6 d more favorable operating conditions hydrolysis acidification meal. average concentration total (TVFAs) obtained 15,249.50 mg/L, content varied from 88.51% 96.27%, with an ratio 92.55%. This operation condition drove formation structure, mainly including Prepotella, Tepididimicrobium, Anaerosalibacter, Igatzschineria, which production, reflecting using targeted ECFA.
